Goals of Mayors Taskforce for Jobs

The Taskforce works to achieve the goal:

 

That all young people under 25 years be engaged in appropriate education, training, work or other activities that contribute to their long-term economic independence and well-being.

 

In addition, the Taskforce and the Government are committed to working in partnership on areas of common interest.

During 2010, this has been on youth employment (including Youth Transitions) and community responses to the recession. To support this commitment, the Government and the Taskforce developed a joint Action Plan which contains

• specific activities for Government agencies,
• specific activities for the Taskforce
• and joint activities.
  

Priorities in the plan were:

1. Youth Transitions to further education, training or employment
2. Responding to the impact of current economic conditions
3. Sharing information and celebrating success 4. Local collaboration between central Government, local Government and the community
